the加形容词表示一类人谓语动词

the加名词或形容词表示一类人，后面的谓语动词应该用复数形式。例如The poor should be helped to stand on their own feet.应该帮助穷人们自力更生。the的意思是指已提到或易领会到的人或事物，指独一无二的、正常的或不言而喻的人或事物，解说时用。

the在形容词前的用法

1、the与某些形容词连用，使形容词名词化，相当于复数的普通名词，表示一类人

例如：

the young 青年

the old 老年

the poor 穷人

the rich 富人

the sick 病人

2、the后面接形容词，相当于抽象名词

例如：

the true 真理，真实

the false 假

the sublime 崇高

the unusual 不寻常

the beautiful 优美

3、the用于形容词的比较级前，表示两者中的一个“较……”、“更……”、“最……

例如：

the larger of the two desks.两张书桌中较大的一张。

the elder of the two sisters.两姐妹中年纪较大的一个。

the *** aller of the two oranges.两个桔子中较小的一个。

She is the older and the more beautiful of the two girls.两个女孩中，她年龄较大也比较漂亮。

4、the用于形容词的最高级前

例如：

Mike is the best student in his class.迈克是他班级中最好的学生。

Hangzhou is the most beautiful place I have ever visited.杭州是我所到过的最美的地方。

但是，当形容词的最高级单独作表语或最高级前有形容词性物主代词修饰时，不用the。

例如：

It's best to go there by bike.最好是骑自行车去那儿。

He's happiest when he is working.他工作的时候最愉快。

5、the用于形容词前，表示某一物的特殊部分，这样的形容词已经兼有了名词词性

例如：

the white of an egg 蛋白

例如：the former...(the latter)前者……(后者……)
